BALASSAGYARMAT FARMERS’ MARKET

Operating since 2014, Balassagyarmat Farmers’ Market was organized by the students and of the Sustainable Rural Development Course of ELTE Faculty of Human Ecology, as a result of a 3-year research project in the Balassagyarmat Micro Region (Nógrád County, N-Hungary) and the Slovak side of the river Ipoly/Ipel, in the Veľký Krtíš District. Agri Kulti handed over the operation to the Municipality of Balassagyarmat in the same year.

Reviving local food connections

The project was a participatory action research, aiming to investigate whether a once significant town on the Hungarian-Slovakian border is capable of sustaining a market of products from its surrounding area, in other words: to find out whether farmers’ market can be considered as a real leverage point for Balassagyarmat.
